Mesa Rim Yoga Instructors & Bios
Kati began practicing yoga 15 years ago as a means to better cope with difficult situations, both physically and psychologically. She is trained by Tim Miller and teaches in a style that she honed while assisting him and practicing under his watchful eye. Kati is excited to offer some playful and challenging adaptations of that practice here at Mesa Rim.
Michelle grew up watching her mother teach dance. It was only when Michelle became interested in pursuing tap dancing that she was advised to begin practicing yoga to improve her posture. After one yoga class taught by Natasha Teran, she was hooked. Michelle pursued her love of yoga, and continued to refine her yoga practice. Through her practice, she was inspired to become a teacher. She has been teaching yoga since 2006 and continues to study Asthanga yoga under Natasha Teran and Tim Miller.
From the ocean to the trees, Meg Tuazon was raised with a close connection to nature and movement. The journey of yoga as a dynamic adventure was appealing to Meg’s migratory nature and energetic being. Meg received her RYT Vinyasa certification in 2007 and has continued her education since then. She is now applying her Yoga Therapy Rx degree from Loyola Marymount University to treat student’s specific needs such as skeletal and/or muscular injury. Meg is currently enrolled in the Olivier School of Healing to become a Certified Integrative Healer. She is also a Reiki Master and balances clinical yoga therapy with the art of teaching Yinki® for a unique and personal experience healing the spirit and body as one. Meg brings an anatomical, adjustment, and alignmentbased teaching style to her classes, while remaining loving, light-hearted and encouraging. Meg continues looking forward to weaving her education and worldly experience into creative projects such as the nest life, and is currently creating her most recent endeavor, Summit to Sea Yoga, unique yogic retreat experiences and adventures, for recreational and spiritual journeys.
Sarah Haughton, a certified E-RYT 200 through Yoga Alliance, has over 500 hours of yoga trainings, with an emphasis in yoga therapy. Her current emphasis in training and teaching is inspired by John Friend and Desi Springer’s Sridaiva Yoga “The Roots.” She received her first 200 hour training from Yoga to the People, New York City. Sarah then completed 200 hours Anusara trainings with Michael Fukumara, plus 30 hours of Yoga and Therapy training and completed level 2 Anusara Teacher Training with Markin and Jordan Kirk. Sarah sends much gratitude and love to all of her many teachers of yoga.
Sarah’s yoga practice is a very important part of her daily life in maintaining freedom from chronic facial pain, a condition named Trigeminal Neuralgia. Sarah uses yoga as an opportunity to delight in the experience of the body and breath and to strengthen both body and mind.
Sarah discovered yoga as a teenager, and continued to return to the mat throughout her life, using yoga as a balance to rugby, kickboxing, running, and softball. Yoga was a huge tool for her in recovery from an ACL injury and surgery, and she has continued to explore the many ways that a consistent and dedicated yoga practice can heal and restructure both body and mind.
Ryan’s curious nature and penchant for adventure has taken him to over 40 states and to just as many countries. Having traveled north, east, south, and west, Ryan realized that the most rewarding journey has always been inward. This inward journey of introspection and self-improvement is universal to all human beings – we all want to be happy after all! Ryan’s mission is to meet every individual exactly where they are and to explore this gift of life together, whether it be upside-down on a yoga mat, side-by-side in a seated meditation, or high up on a granite wall! Within every human is a being of supreme insight and perfect clarity. Ryan would like nothing more than to help you reveal your True Self!
Karthi has practiced yoga on and off since 2010 but started developing a more consistent interest and practice in 2013. That year, he decided to take a teacher training in Vinyasa style yoga. This not only furthered his own practice but also increased his desire to share the positive effects of yoga with as many people as he could. His teaching style is alignment-focused but gentle and he encourages students to tap into the immense power of their breath while listening to their bodies. He has also been a climber for the past 8 years and noticed the direct effect that the flexibility, strength, and breath control that yoga provides has had on his own climbing. He is excited to share the many wonderful aspects of yoga with the Mesa Rim community!
Nikole’s path and study of the self spans across many yogic and buddhist traditions. For the last 7 years, Nikole has committed thoroughly and wholeheartedly to studying and practicing the transformative work of BKS Iyengar, a deep alignment-based yoga that has an emphasis on detail and precision alignment in asana and pranayama (pose and breath). She studies with Senior-most teachers Manouso Manos and Gloria Goldberg and is in her 3rd year of Iyengar Certification. Nikole has been practicing yoga for 18 years and teaching for 16. She is the director of a 200 hour yoga teacher training program in San Diego and lives with her kid- Winifred and her cat- Shiva in Normal Heights. All 3 love art, singing/dancing and climbing. 🙂
An avid climber, Steven first found his regular yoga practice to foster a sense of calm and presence on the wall. Quickly his asana practice united with his interests in philosophy to bring about a deeper exploration of the Truth. In 2014 Steven completed his 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training at Mosaic to further his practice and share his journey. He works with each individual to integrate and overcome their unique challenges while remaining a lifelong student.
Mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually, Steven is in constant pursuit of higher understanding. His inspiration and study is evident in his teaching style. Steven’s inquisitive nature reminds us to honestly question where we are and direct us to where we desire to be. As a strong believer in dharma and the pursuit of one’s purpose in life, Steven aims to cultivate the unique talents and skills of every individual in order to unleash their full potential. He is excited to share his perspective as a part of the Mesa Rim team and facilitate continued exploration and growth alongside his own.
After leaving her hometown of Miami in search for new beginnings, while grieving the loss of her mother, Yanai began her first yoga experience in 2010 as a social sweat sesh with her roommates. Over the years her practice turned into a deeper connection in bringing mindfulness to her breathe and learning how to “let go.” She has found internal peace in being present and living for the moment. An ER nurse by trade and a yogi by passion nothing ignites her more then her wanderlust spirit as she has wandered through Asia, Australia and Patagonia, hiked through the Grand Canyon, the slots of Zion and Climbed The Grand Tetons and continues to chase the natural high of the outdoors. In 2015 she decided to share her passion as a yoga teacher to teach how to merge mindfulness and breathe onto our mats and into our everyday life. Her flows and positive affirmations will leave you inspired with a new breath for life.

Erlin’s yoga journey began during college, where she was fortunate to study under an accomplished Ashtanga teacher. Though she loved the physical challenge, what kept her coming back were the lessons she took off the mat. The practice brought her into the present, allowed her to focus, and empowered her to live the life she imagined. She soon found herself breathing through stressful situations and taking time to revel in the magic of everyday life.
After graduation, she went on to open a retreat center in Vermont, where she taught yoga to elite athletes, corporate CEOs and local community members. She completed her 200 hour teacher training with Dana Rae Pare. With an extensive background in dance, Erlin loves to explore graceful, energetic sequences which empower students to go deeper both mentally and physically. She is adamant about proper alignment and encourages students to listen closely to the wisdom of their own bodies. In a positive and nurturing environment, Erlin encourages students to achieve their personal best, both on and off the mat.
Jenna’s passion for yoga continues to transform her perspective and life. The practice keeps her grounded through the ebbs and flows. Yoga has taught her that it isn’t something you do but more importantly how you live. She started teaching in 2010 with the help of mentors, teachers, and friends. She has over 500 hours of training in Hatha, Vinyasa, Anusara, and Yin. Her commitment as a student, and teacher, continues to uplift her and others daily. The last few years, Jenna has been traveling and teaching yoga in Central and South America. Her other passions are spending time in nature, surfing, cooking, and creating art. Jenna is also a lifestyle and nutrition coach where she supports others in finding their true happiness and optimal health.
Anika’s passion for yoga was born when she began to notice her current life lessons being reflected in her body and practice. Anika has an energetic and playful approach to life that she also incorporates in her practice and teaching. She believes that yoga is an exploration of self and that we should enjoy that process whenever possible. Having been originally drawn to the physicality and challenge of a yoga practice, Anika seeks to create classes that empower the body as well as stimulate contemplation of the spirit and aid in the quest for a joyous life. She’s grateful to have been certified in both Hatha and Vinyasa teaching at OB Namasté and continues to find inspiration through the amazing teachers, workshops, conferences, festivals, and students that the area has to offer.
Jazelyn Hoel is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer and 200hr Yoga Alliance certified Instructor. Jaz enjoys combining yoga, strength training and calisthenics to optimize total body strength! She aim to find balance in fitness and yoga to create a healthy, positive lifestyle for herself and for her students.
Rachel started practicing yoga in 2007 after her college cheerleading career at Missouri State came to an end. It was the physical aspect of yoga that sparked her interest. Little did she know it would be just the beginning of her yoga journey. In 2011 she moved to San Diego and her eyes were opened to new styles of yoga, philosophies, and techniques she never previously knew existed (que A Whole New World). In January 2014 Rachel was craving more, so she decided to pursue her RYT 200hr certification to deepen her own understanding and practice.
She loves combining power vinyasa with slow, mindful movements and a strong breath making practice a moving meditation. When Rachel is not practicing yoga you can find her doing AcroYoga, acrobatics, rock climbing, hiking, traveling, and adventuring outdoors! Never loose your love to play!
My yoga journey started in High School in 2001. I was told yoga would help me with ADD and learning disabilities. I opted to replace PE with Iyengar Yoga. After two years of attending the Ann Arbor School of Yoga, I realized that I needed the calm and focus that the physical practice brought in to my life. I continued to seek different styles of yoga after graduating High School. I began teacher training in 2009 after moving to San Diego, CA. from Ann Arbor, Michigan. Now, I enjoy teaching a variety of yoga styles. Every style I teach has a core of alignment, breath and flow. I believe that any level of student should feel uplifted and empowered by practicing yoga. I work towards making yoga a benefit for everybody!
I enjoy teaching because I love seeing the ongoing transformation in students and myself. Enriching the community via union of mind, body and spirit. I am always looking for growth, contribution, community building and a chance to learn something new. In my free time you may find me traveling, climbing, sewing or playing with an AcroYoga buddy.
I was first introduced to yoga in my high school dance class back in the 90s! Since then, I have found yoga to be a source of positive energy and well-being. I studied for my 200 hour yoga teacher training in 2011, then traveled to India to study more yoga, then completed another 300 hours and am now a 500 hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT). I try to keep myself learning and see teaching as a way to offer what I can to help others. My style of teaching is generally energetic and playful. I take time to teach safe alignment and to encourage “yo-ddies.” I stay after class to answer questions and care about my students learning. Off the mat, I enjoy: poetry, union work, rock-climbing, traveling, salsa-dancing, surfing, teaching history at a local high school, and nerding out on 19th century fiction. I’m excited to join the Mesa Rim community!
Ashley "Pearl" Pearlman
I’m Ashley Pearlman, but most people call me Pearl 🙂
I first found yoga as I was in a transitional period of my life. During that time, yoga helped me feel more grounded, more in control of my life, and more peaceful. Yoga allowed me to get out of my head, get into my body, and become more present and aware with each breath I take. Being someone who has dealt with depression and anxiety, yoga offered a path out of the darkness. The path is different for everyone but I truly believe yoga can help any BODY.
I am a 500 Hour Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance. Although I teach many different styles of yoga, my passion lies in teaching Yin. I also enjoy teaching Vinyasa and Hatha, and making one-on-one connections in private lessons.
My goal is to create a welcoming and exploratory environment in which you can center your mind, body, and focus. I want to help people find a calm inner being so that they can think clearer, breath easier, move more fluidly, and live better. Knowing how much yoga has helped me physically, mentally, and emotionally, it is truly my honor and pleasure to share it with you.
A counselor in the mental health field, a yoga therapy student, a climber, an unshakable positivist, and a sweet friend, Allison finds joy in spreading happiness. Whether it’s sharing an asana that helps a person relieve physical pain, or saying the simplest words to turn someone’s day around, Allison lives to lend a hand.
Her training in yoga began with Children’s Yoga followed by Ashtanga. Now and for the past 3 years, she has been studying Yoga Therapy at The Soul of Yoga Institute. Allison continues to create depth in her understanding of yoga, human nature, and life every day. She honors energetic highs and lows and is always there to meet people where you are on any given day.
Jenna’s strong and creative vinyasa classes challenge students to develop their asana practice, through skillful alignment cues and adjustments. She creates an environment where both beginning and experienced students feel free to explore the boundaries of their practice without feeling intimidated. Jenna encourages students to see yoga as a tool for empowering and changing their lives, not just physically, but spiritually and emotionally as well. Jenna first came across yoga in 1999, just after high school. After being a competitive springboard diver, yoga seemed like a way to keep her body flexible and strong. Yoga’s influence made an immediate and profound impact in her life, and continues to do so today. After a decade and a half of practice, Jenna decided to share yoga’s life changing effects by completing the 200 hour RYT comprehensive yoga teacher training program at La Jolla Yoga Center. Over time Jenna has crafted her classes to make each a refreshing and new experience, with creative, intelligent sequencing, yummy adjustments, and fresh playlists.
In 2015 Amanda spent five weeks in Rishikesh, India, along the banks of Ma Ganga. There, she deepened her love for humanity and nature, & received her 200hr RYT certification in Radiant Body Yoga through Kia Miller. This style perfectly combines the technical precision of Ashtanga and Iyengar with the subtle dimensions of Kundalini. Amanda has been practicing (and teaching intermittently) for the past 20 years, with a solid daily practice in Ashtanga. Through the practice of yoga, we are able to calm the mind and catch glimpses of the truth of our greatness, the awesomeness that we all are. Students will leave Amanda’s class feeling wrung out and renewed with clarity, both physically and mentally. Sarah Clark shifted to teaching yoga full time in 2007 in New York City, mostly at OM Yoga Center (where she also completed her 200-hour training), NYU, and privately. In 2011, she relocated to San Diego, CA and continues to offer community-based yoga & meditation programs, teacher trainings, continuing education, private lessons and retreats (see www.sarahclarkyoga.com for details).
Sarah’s classes are alignment-based & breath-centered, and draw on all 8 limbs of a whole yoga practice & buddha dharma. Her teaching is heavily influenced by her own sitting meditation practice, work as a professional contemporary dancer, a sense of humor, wrestling with yoga & buddhist ethics, and her teachers. Sarah feels gratefully indebted to her most influential teachers, including Michael Stone, Judith Lasater, and many OM Yoga greats including Cyndi Lee, Sarah Trelease, Joe Miller and Christie Clark.
